treasured / time well spent

there are so many things to do before I start grad school. jewelry to make, jewelry to list in my Etsy shop, paperwork to sort through, plants to water...

what mattered most to me was going to visit my sister and niece in Medford, OR, even if it meant that everything else on my to do list aged a bit more.

it's a schlep. the best way to get there from San Francisco is to drive. 6 hours. each way. well worth it to see my sister and the most adorable little girl. We drove up and met Little Mommy who had driven up the day before.

yesterday I had a chance to catch up on some jewelry hammering -- I've been using Little Mommy's house for this loud activity now that we're living in a quieter building. while I was there making tons of noise I caught a glimpse of the piles of treasures she has slated for her Etsy shops 1 & 2

vintage haul / vintage wear and tear

sometimes I buy something vintage that needs a little fixing. someone has to rescue these old, slightly broken pieces. here's a stunningly beautiful art deco ring -- diamonds and rubies and gold, oh my.

at some point in this ring's life someone or something bent the ring and caused a little breakage -- the ring's setting is separating from the ring's band (see the extra bit of shadow where the triangle on the band of the ring meets the setting?) -- fingers crossed that my jeweler can make the fix.

vintage haul / birthday discovery

I may be impossible to shop for. as much as I love buying and selling treasures, I appreciate the simplicity of having just the right number of treasures in my own home -- enough treasures to be called a collection but few enough to be able to appreciate the individual items.

for my birthday gift this year Little Mommy purchased a love token from 1883 with my initials engraved in it. I am in awe.

who knew? I've been buying, selling, studying, learning about vintage jewelry for years and I had never stumbled upon one of these glorious coins.

here are a few favorites I found on the internet:
1 & 2

and here's someone making them in modern times: check out their inventory here

three vintage gold rings

all destined for my etsy shop just as soon as I convince myself not to keep them

snippets / etc

my first waking thought this morning poked at my brain, "oh, yeah, I have a blog, I almost forgot"

my days have suddenly become filled with the tasks I've had waiting on my to-do list for months, years, as I prepare to venture back into school in a few weeks.

I had forgotten that going to school requires so much paper. so many forms. so many transcripts. time spent requesting, submitting, e-mailing.

all of this is a welcome change. I was just starting to wonder what I was doing with my 27th year.

1. say hello to my tiny new car.
2. treasure box for my 2.5 year old friend, Jack.
3. white roses out of focus
